James Reimer Maple LeafsToronto Maple Leafs vs. Montreal Canadiens Free NHL Pick: The Montreal Canadiens are out to prove that they are a tougher team this year than they were a campaign ago, and they are going to try to do that on the opening night of the season when they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs in NHL betting action at the Bell Centre.

The Leafs though, are going to be hanging in there, and the oddsmakers know it. This was a team that wasn’t the best on the road in the 2013 season, but Toronto is only a +118 underdog. The ‘total’ on the NHL odds for this Tuesday soiree is set at just 5. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Hockey betting fans have to be happy to have their favorite game back. The season came late last year, and the campaign was cut back to just 48 games, but this year thanks to the Olympics, the campaign is early on. The Canadian Classic will kick off the season, as the Maple Leafs try to make a statement on the road against last year’s Northeast Division winners. These two mates are sharing the same division at this point, and that makes this rivalry all the more important knowing that at least three of the eight teams in the Atlantic Division and the Metropolitan Division will get into the second season.

G James Reimer was hot in the preseason for the Leafs, and he is expected to get the call in this one. Reimer was all that really separated Toronto from being a truly elite team last year, but to his credit, he hung in there and got the job done when he really needed to for a good chunk of the playoffs. C Nazem Kadri and RW Phil Kessel should both be able to make their presence known in this game against Montreal for sure. The Canadiens won two of the last three meetings last year of these rivals, but Toronto did win three of the five games. One thing is for sure, and that’s that the Leafs are going to score some goals. They’ll get four on the board in this first game of the year and send the Canadiens reeling to their first loss.

Betting Trend of the Game: The Maple Leafs are 5-1 in their last six visits to the Bell Centre coming into this season.
