Stanley Cup Finals Game 1 Odds: Bruins +135 / Blackhawks -145 (Total: 5)

The oddsmakers need a reality check in this one. If they think there are going to be six goals scored in any of the games in this series, they need their heads examined. Last year in the Finals, five of the six games failed to get beyond four goals. The Bruins have also allowed a total of just 12 goals in their last nine games, and that doesn’t include basically another full game of overtime periods that they have played as well. Instead, all of the focus is on C David Krejci and the Boston offense, and most assume that the Chicago attack is going to pick it up at some point. However, the numbers just don’t lie. The Blackhawks have gone 7-5-5 for ‘under’ bettors in their 17 playoff games, while the Bruins have gone 7-7-2 in their 16 playoff games. Most importantly though, the B’s played four of the five games in the Eastern Conference Finals ‘under’ the ‘total’. Don’t get cute with this series. The wheel doesn’t need to be reinvented. For as long as the ‘under’ is right around even money at five goals, that’s the direction that we’re going to go in.
