Sunday NFL analysis: The 3-0 Arizona Cardinals take on the Denver Broncos from Sports Authority Field in Denver, CO.

The Denver Broncos currently sit at 2-1 and are coming off of their bye week. In their last contest, the Broncos came up short, losing to Seattle in overtime 26-20. Denver rallied in the 4th quarter, scoring 14 points to tie the game at 20. However, Denver wouldn’t get the ball back as Seattle drove down the field to score to end the game and seal the win for the Seahawks. Peyton Manning and the Denver offense hasn’t been as productive this season compared to last and is actually 22nd in the league in yards per game. Manning has completed 66.7% of his passes for 814 yards and 8 touchdowns with only 1 interception. Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, a free agent acquisition in the offseason has found his niche in the offense, leading all receivers with 25 receptions for 334 yards. The Broncos defense has had its moments, but is still struggling against the pass, allowing 285 yards per game. They are respectable against the run, allowing just 105 yards per game on the ground.

The Arizona Cardinals enter Sunday’s contest at 3-0, and are one of the pleasant surprises this season. The Cardinals are getting it done with defense, as they #1 in the league in total defense. The opposition isn’t scoring either, as Arizona is only allowing 11 points per game, tops in the NFL. Let’s just say that that head coach Bruce Arians should be happy to have such a stingy defensive squad, because offensively they are struggling. Quarterback Carson Palmer has missed some time, and he’ll be out on Sunday, so Drew Stanton will get his third start of the season. While they haven’t had a lot of success on offense, they do continue to make plays when it matters. Michael Floyd is looking like the go-to receiver nowadays, leading the team in receptions (11) and yards (252). Running back Andre Ellington is leading the backfield with 206 yards and averaging 4.5 yards per carry. Ellington has struggled to stay healthy this season, but when he’s 100%, he’s a threat to take it to the house.

Both teams are coming off the bye, and should be well prepared. As much as I’d like to grab the points with Arizona, I really think Denver gets the job done this Sunday. Arizona is a good team no question, but I don’t see their inconsistent offense keeping up with Denver here. Now you might say that the fact that Denver is 0-3 ATS, it would be relatively stupid to lay this many points against a team that’s undefeated. Well, they might be 0-3 against the number, but in their first game, Denver had the game won and let the Colts back in it in the second half. The second game against Kansas City was a big look-ahead spot, as they had a Super Bowl rematch with Seattle the following week. Then the Seattle game, they lost in overtime, and were 5 point underdogs. There’s something to say about all 3 of their previous opponents, they can score and are consistent on offense, unlike Arizona. Arizona was hot heading into their bye week, when teams are on a winning streak, the last thing they want to see is a long break. When a team loses, the bye week can serve as a way to regain focus and get back on track. Arizona has only had one road game this season, and they were outgained in that game 260-154. I like Denver to get the job done on Sunday, and I think we’ll see Arizona’s true colors.
