Thursday NFL analysis: The Green Bay Packers take on the Minnesota Vikings from Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin to kick off week 5 of the NFL season on Thursday night.

Green Bay is coming off an impressive 38-17 victory over the Chicago Bears last Sunday. Aaron Rodgers was on point as he completed 22 of 28 passes for 302 yards and 4 touchdowns. Wide receivers Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb had impressive showings combining for 225 yards and 4 touchdowns. The running game continued to be disappointing though, as Eddie Lacy The Green Bay Packers take on the Minnesota Vikings from Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI to kick off week 5 of the NFL season on Thursday night.

Minnesota got a nice win on Sunday, defeating the Atlanta Falcons 41-28 in a mild upset. Rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was impressive in his first NFL start, completing connecting on 19 of 30 pass attempts for 317 yards. The highly touted rookie also ran for 27 yards and a score and speaking of rushing, that’s what was impressive about the Vikings’ win. Minnesota ran for 241 yards led by rookie Jarick McKinnon. McKinnon turned a lot of heads in training camp, and was quite impressive on Sunday averaging 7.5 yards per carry.

I’m grabbing the points with Minnesota on Thursday night. Teddy Bridgewater suffered an ankle injury late in the game against Atlanta, and his status is up in the air as of Wednesday night. Either way I like the dog here. Minnesota is running the ball with a lot of success thus far this season, ranking 8th in the league averaging 134 yards per game. This can’t bode well for a Green Bay defense that is surrendering an average of 176 yards on the ground per game. QB Aaron Rodgers has been successful in the past against the Vikings, but now that Mike Zimmer is there Rodgers shouldn’t be as effective. Zimmer’s defenses in the past have given Rodgers problems, showing multiple defensive fronts and blitzing from different areas. The Minnesota defense should have their moments given Green Bay’s struggles on the offensive line. Should Bridgewater start, I think there is some value at this number. If he doesn’t, former starter Christian Ponder will get the start. Ponder has had his moments, both good and bad, yet he might have some success in offensive coordinator Norv Turner’s system. Should it be the case that Ponder gets the start, we might see more value on the dog with the public overreacting to the last minute change at quarterback. We’ve seen it many times, if one player goes down, the rest of the team steps up their effort. I think the Packers get the win on Thursday night, but Minnesota will make it difficult with a stingy defense and a strong running game.
