Monday Night Football NFL analysis: It’s a NFC North rivalry game on Mpackers-bearsonday night football as the Green Bay Packers host the Chicago Bears.  The Green Bay Packers have been hit with some injuries this year at key positions, but they are still getting the job done. The Packers (5-2) are leading the division, and are without the services of Randall Cobb for the year, and have had some other receivers out of action for the past few weeks. Wide receiver James Jones is questionable with a knee injury, and tight end Jermichael Finley is out with a spinal cord injury. While Aaron Rodgers is still getting the job done with Jordy Nelson and other receivers, the running game has been a big part of the offensive success. Rookie Eddie Lacy out of Alabama leads the team in rushing, while James Starks and rookie Johnathan Franklin have helped carry the load. Defensively, the Packers have been performing well, despite not having the services of linebacker Clay Matthews for 3 games. They are sixth in the league in total defense, while ranking second in the league in run defense.

The Chicago Bears (4-3), under first year head coach Marc Trestman, started off the season at 3-0, but have fallen on hard times as of late. The Bears have lost 3 of their last 4, and lost quarterback Jay Cutler for 4 games to a groin injury.  Veteran Josh McCown will get the start under center, and has a good supporting cast around him. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall may have most of the opposing defenses attention, but second year wide receiver Alshon Jeffery leads the team in receiving yards. Running back Matt Forte is having a good season as well, rushing for 533 yards along with 262 receiving yards. The defense however, is not the same Chicago defense as in years past. Chicago ranks eighteenth in the league in total defense. The Bears defense is also surrendering an astonishing 29.4 points per game, very uncharacteristic.

It appears that Green Bay has the advantage in all three phases for this matchup. Their defense is playing at a high level, and they have a well balanced offensive attack. Despite the injury to Jay Cutler, Josh McCown is no slouch, he did perform well in their last game at Washington, but then again that was a weak Redskins defense. If Chicago has any hopes of competing in this game, they must slow it down. I believe that Matt Forte will play a big role on Monday night. This won’t be easy, as Green Bay’s run defense is outstanding. We all know that in these types of divisional matchups, records go out the window, and players step up on Monday night. I just don’t have that much faith in McCown, as he is 13-20 as a starter in the league. Ultimately, I see Aaron Rodgers and the offense having its way with a defense that is a shell of its former self. Chicago keeps it close for a quarter or two, but the Pack pulls away towards the end.
