Monday Night Football Picks NFL analysis: It whatkaepernick-falcons will be the last regular season game ever in Candlestick Park as the San Francisco 49ers look to clinch a playoff spot as they host the Atlanta Falcons.  They also look to stay alive for a chance at their 3rd straight NFC West title in week 17.

It’s hard to believe that with the record Atlanta has this season, they were playing the 49ers last year in the NFC championship. The Falcons are 4-10 and since their bye week are 3-6. Injuries have done this team in and since the injury to wide receiver Julio Jones, the Falcons season seemed to spiral out of control. Quarterback Matt Ryan has completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 3887 yards with 22 touchdowns and 14 interceptions and has also been sacked 34 times. Steven Jackson leads the team in rushing with 449 yards and has struggled to stay healthy this year. Harry Douglas leads the team in receptions and receiving yards with 73 receptions for 963 yards as Roddy White has also struggled with injuries. There’s also Tony Gonzales, who is playing in his last year, is second on the team with 71 receptions, and has 740 yards and 7 touchdowns. The offense ranks 16th in the league in total offense with 262.2 yards passing and 79.3 yards rushing per game. The defense is ranked near the bottom of the league, allowing 254 yards passing and 131 yards rushing per game.

San Francisco currently sits at 10-4 and holds the #6 seed for the playoffs. The 49ers have won four games in a row, and are coming off a 33-14 road victory at Tampa Bay. The offense looks to be rounding into shape, as the return of Michael Crabtree has definitely made a difference. Crabtree made his return in week 13, and has made an immediate impact with 153 yards and averaging 13.9 yards per reception. The return of Crabtree, along with the presence of Anquan Boldin (958 yds) and Vernon Davis (805 yds) has made life a little easier for quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Frank Gore leads a potent rushing attack that is 5th in the league averaging 137.8 yards per game. The defense continues to play at a high level. The 49ers are ranked 3rd in the league in total defense, allowing only 199.7 yards passing and 99.4 yards rushing per game.

It will be an emotional night in San Francisco, as it will be the final game played in Candlestick Park. I can’t really imagine the Falcons giving the 49ers any kind of trouble here. The 49ers also know they need to take care of business with Arizona winning at Seattle on Sunday. Should they lose this game, the game next week at Arizona would present a ‘win and you’re in’ scenario for either team. I don’t think that’s happening Monday night. Atlanta has issues, they can’t run the ball effectively, and they face one of the top defenses in the league here. Their defense is also atrocious, so it could be a heavy dose of the running game. There’s no trap game here, the 49ers know if they win they’ll be in the playoffs, and I expect that to be the outcome in on Monday night.
