Sunday NFL analysis: The Seattle Seahawks will be looking to clinch the NFC West and the #1 seed when they host the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cardinals (9-5) come in to Sunday’s matchup trailing San Francisco by one game in the NFC wildcard. The Arizona Cardinals have quietly six out of their last seven games. They are coming off a thrilling 37-34 overtime win over Tennessee. Quarterback Carson Palmer has had one of his better seasons in recent years. Palmer has completed 64.5% of his passes for 3689 yards with 21 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Larry Fitzgerald is having another great season with 73 receptions for 823 yards and 10 touchdowns. Michael Floyd has emerged as a legitimate target opposite Fitzgerald to form one of the more formidable wide receiver tandems in the league. Fitzgerald is currently questionable with a concussion so his status for Sunday’s game should be monitored. The Cardinals may have found a diamond in the rough in sixth round draft pick Andre Ellington. The explosive Ellington averages 5.9 yards per carry and is also a threat in the receiving game with 34 receptions for 35 yards. Arizona’s defense is one of the better defensive units in the league, ranking seventh in the league in total defense and first in the league against the run allowing only 83.2 yards per game.

Everyone knows about Seattle’s dominance at home. The Seahawks have won each home game by an average 18.6 points. Seattle’s offense is well balanced, averaging 213 yards through the air and 141 yards on the ground per game. Quarterback Russell Wilson has completed 64.7% of his passes for 3077 yards with 24 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, and has a quarterback rating of 105. Marshawn Lynch is having a great season and has rushed for 1089 yards with 11 touchdowns and is averaging 4.2 yards per carry. Wilson has plenty of capable receivers, in Golden Tate (54 rec 735 yds), Doug Baldwin (49 rec 770 yds). Seattle’s defense ranks first in the league in total defense, allowing 174.2 yards through the air and 105 yards rushing per game. They are second in the league in takeaways, and can rush the passer as they’ve registered 40 sacks on the year. Their defense did suffer a setback this week, as cornerback Brandon Browner’s one year suspension was upheld by the league.

There’s no disputing Seattle’s holds a distinct advantage at home, but 10.5 points for a divisional game is a little much. Arizona is fighting to stay in the wildcard hunt, and I’m sure they remember the 58-0 loss at Seattle last year. Arizona’s run defense is excellent, and it should pose some problems for Marshawn Lynch. Arizona’s defense will keep their team in this game, but I think Seattle’s defense will cause Carson Palmer to make a mistake or two, which ultimately will decide the game. Seattle should win this game, but by double digits? I’m thinking the value is with the Cardinals in this one.
