Thursday NFL analysis: Two storied franchises meet on Thanksgiving day as the Raiders Cowboys Thanksgiving Picks6-5 Dallas Cowboys host the 4-7 Oakland Raiders.
T
he Dallas Cowboys are 6-5 and currently tied with Philadelphia for the NFC East lead. Inconsistency could be a word used to describe their season, as they have been up and down, and have only won back to back games once this season. They are coming off a huge road win against the Giants. Tony Romo lead the offense down the field on the final drive and the Cowboys won on a field goal at the end of regulation. Dallas was coming off the bye week and were embarrassed by the Saints the week before. The Cowboys offense has done well this season, yet injuries and inconsistency at the running back position have hampered things. Demarco Murray can’t seem to stay healthy, and even though Joseph Randle has showed promise at times, the Cowboys are only averaging 79.7 yards per game on the ground. Tony Romo is having a good season, completing 64.2% of his passes for 2915 yards with 23 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Dez Bryant has been having an impressive year, catching 61 balls for 835 yards and 8 touchdowns. Jason Witten (51 rec. 569 yds) and Cole Beasley (28 rec. 274 yards) have also been key contributors. Terrance Williams (30 rec. 508 yds), the rookie out of Baylor has been quite impressive and made some big plays as well. The defense has Jerry Jones really regretting the hiring of defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. The Cowboys rank 30th in the league in passing defense and 31st in rushing defense.

The Oakland Raiders are still in rebuilding mode, yet they have had some good wins this year and still remain competitive in most of their games. The Raiders have quality wins over San Diego and Pittsburgh and were competitive against the Chiefs and Colts in those losses. Rookie quarterback Matt McGloin will get his third start this year, and it’s looking like he will get the nod over Terrell Pryor for the rest of the year. McGloin got a win in his first start two weeks ago at Houston going 18 for 32 with 197 yards and 3 touchdowns. It’s apparent that head coach Dennis Allen thinks that McGloin gives them the best chance to win. Even though Pryor was injured last week against Tennessee, he was still active and did not see any time on the field. Darren McFadden will return this week after missing 3 games with a hamstring injury; however Rashad Jennings has taken the lead role in the backfield with 553 yards and averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Jennings has been more effective that the often injured McFadden, but still could see some time diminished this week sharing carries. The defense hasn’t been that good against the pass this year, but they should get cornerback Mike Jenkins back this week. Jenkins is a former Cowboy, and could provide some valuable insight to the Cowboys offense from a preparation standpoint. The Raiders are good against the run allowing 99 yards pre game.

Dallas is coming off a big division win on the road, even though it was against a then 4-6 team it was still a big win. The trash talk from the Giants in the week leading up to the game was a big motivating factor and the Cowboys seemed really happy to hand the Giants a loss and make them eat their words. Judging how the Cowboys have been this year, I would expect them to get the win, but not in an impressive fashion. They might be due for a little bit of a letdown after a big win in the division on a short week. Oakland can run the ball, and with key pieces missing on the Dallas defense (Sean Lee, Morris Claiborne) I expect the Raiders to be able to move the ball. Dallas should get the win here, but as a home favorite of more than a touchdown, I have to take to the dog here.

Chad A. Dawkins is not only an avid sports betting blogger and writer, but he is also a truly dedicated sports handicapper. As a very passionate sports fanatic since childhood, he’s a spirited sports handicapper of the purest form. He not only picks winners by putting in hours of time on all sports; football, basketball, & baseball handicapping. Chad truely enjoys the daily capping grind. He utilizes his love of numbers, the basic betting trends and other raw data to draw up winners. His daily capping involves combining statistics, betting systems, and public perception. He then ties all of this information with his personal knowledge of the game; which is stemmed from his regular viewing habits. Dawkins uses all the tools available to him to practice different types of situational handicapping and to develop systems. Chad uses all of this to pick winners and find value where the sports betting public doesn’t see it. Recently, Dawkins has been contributing on several top websites. He’s been a long time (5+ year) member and often shares his insights on the Cappersinfo.com forums; whom we would like to thank for recommending Chad to Total Choice Sports Picks. He has a solid understanding of how the daily lines are set by the oddsmakers, what moves the line, influences the public; and just has a solid feel for the betting market in general.
