Colts vs TitansThursday NFL Analysis & Free Picks For The Game: The 6–3 Indianapolis Colts head to Nashville to take on the 4–5 Tennessee Titans in a key AFC South divisional matchup. Both teams are coming off huge upset losses. The Colts were blown out of their own building by the St. Louis Rams 38–8, and the Titans lost to the then winless Jacksonville Jaguars 29–27.

Not only did the Titans lose the game on Sunday, but they also lost their starting quarterback Jake Locker for the season. Locker was placed on injured reserve with the Lisfranc injury, which leaves veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick as the team’s starting quarterback for the remainder of the season. The Titans, for the most part have had an up-and-down season, they had lost Locker earlier in the year for a three games, going 0–3 in that span. However, during that span they did play three of the top defenses in the league, Kansas City, Seattle, and San Francisco. When called in to duty, Fitzpatrick has completed 56 percent of his passes for 790 yards, with four touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Chris Johnson has been inconsistent, averaging only 3.6 yards per carry for 546 yards. The Titans also have a young receiver in speedster Kendall Wright (50 rec. 580 yards) who is starting to come in his own. Defensively, the Titans rank eighth in the league in total defense, giving up an average of 337 yards per game. Their secondary is one of the better ones in the league, behind corners Alterraun Verner, Jason McCourty, and veteran safety Bernard Pollard. The Titans do struggle against the run though, giving up an average of 114.9 yards per game.

After a good start the Colts have struggled mightily in the past two games. In all actuality they’ve only played one quarter of quality football in the past eight. Had it not been for a miracle fourth quarter comeback against Houston, they’d be 5-5. Andrew Luck has been improving this year, but it is evident that the loss of Reggie Wayne was a significant blow to the offense. Other players have stepped up in his absence, as second year wide receiver T.Y. Hilton has taken a lead role. Hilton was a huge part of the comeback win in Houston, with 121 yards and three touchdowns. The ground game has been a big concern in the past two games, with only 68 yards against Houston, and 18 yards against St. Louis. The big acquisition of Trent Richardson has yet to pay dividends. Richardson has only rushed for 22 yards in the past two games, while averaging just 2.8 yards per carry this season. The defense ranks near the bottom two thirds of the league, giving up and average of 367.8 yards per game. The run defense is also a concern, allowing an average of 126.6 yards per game.

The Titans offense has been pedestrian most of the season and now with Fitzpatrick at the helm, it won’t get better. Both teams would like to forget the losses from last week and will look to bounce back in a big way. If the Colts would have won on Sunday, you could make a case for Tennessee here, with the rest of the team stepping up with the backup in. However, it’s a different situation here, the Colts got worked over pretty bad; it was just a bad effort in all three phases. Indianapolis with Andrew Luck are 7-0 straight up and against the number after a loss. And with last Sunday being no ordinary loss, I expect the Colts to take care of business on Thursday night.
