Sunday NFL analysis: Two 5-1 teams in the NFC meet up in Glendale, Arizona as the Arizona Cardinals host the Philadelphia Eagles in one of the better matchups of week 8.

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off the bye week after winning 2 straight. They are definitely getting it done with offense. The Eagles are ranked 7th in the league in passing averaging 262.3 yards through the air per game. They are running the ball with some success as well, averaging 116 yards per rush. Quarterback Nick Foles is having a good season completing 59.5% of his passes for 1628 yards and 10 touchdowns with 7 interceptions. Leading the wide receivers us Jeremy Maclin, who has 27 receptions for 445 yards and 4 touchdowns. Maclin is surely a viable candidate for comeback player of the year, and has been effective in Chip Kelly’s offense. In the offseason the Eagles acquired running back Darren Sproles, and the combination of him and LeSean McCoy has given opposing defenses fits, as they are totaling 905 yards of total offense. On defense, they have struggled, ranking 23rd in the league in both rushing and passing defense. Ball security has been an issue as well, as they have a -5 turnover ratio. They are getting to the quarterback with a lot of success however, as the defense has 19 sacks on the season.

The Cardinals are definitely one of the surprises in the NFL this season, with a 5-1 record and sitting atop the NFC West. They have done it with good defense and solid quarterback play from Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton, who did I fine job in a fill in role earlier this season. The Cardinals struggle against the pass allowing 284 yards passing per game, but have the league’s 2nd best run defense, allowing just 72.5 yards rushing per game. They aren’t getting to the quarterback on a consistent basis, with just 7 sacks this season. When you think of the Cardinals, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald comes to mind. However Michael Floyd has been the teams big play receiver, with 353 yards and averaging 18.6 yards per reception. Out of the backfield, running back Andre Ellington is a player that is capable of taking it to the house whenever he has the ball. Ellington struggled with injuries early in the season, but has gotten healthy and has tallied 393 yards rushing and 260 yards receiving.

I am grabbing the points with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. When teams are on a roll, I typically will fade a team after the bye week. However, Philadelphia head coach Chip Kelly is not your ordinary coach, and with two weeks to prepare, I think he’ll have a solid plan for the Cardinals. I think Nick Foles will have a lot of success against the Arizona secondary, and I don’t think the Cardinal offense will have enough firepower to keep up with the Eagles. Also, the Cardinals might be in a bit of a look-ahead spot, as they will be traveling to Dallas next week to take on what many think is the NFC’s best team, the Cowboys. I think the Cardinals are a good team, but Philadelphia is well rested, and getting healthy. I think the Eagles get the job done on Sunday.
