Monday NFL analysis: The 3-3 Houston Texans travel to the Steel City to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers for ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

The Houston Texans are coming off a 33-28 loss last Thursday night to division rival Indianapolis. They fell behind 24-0 after the first quarter, yet rallied to have a chance at the end. In the end though, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick couldn’t take care of the ball and the Texans fell short. The Texans have a strong running attack behind Arian Foster, who has 513 yards on the season with 5 touchdowns. While they are running the ball with success, they are lacking in the passing game. Houston ranks 28th in the league in passing yards, averaging only 208 passing yards per game. Fitzpatrick is completing 65% of his throws with 6 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. The defense is led by none other than J.J. Watt, who is the most dominant defensive player in the game. Watt is a defensive presence, yet their defense is struggling, ranking  21st in the league in total defense allowing 281 yards passing and 123 yards rushing per game.

Pittsburgh is coming off one of the most embarrasing performances in recent memory as far as the Steelers are concerned. The Steelers lost to divisional rival Cleveland 31-10 last Sunday, if you looked at the box score, your probably scratching your head as Pittsburgh actually matched the Browns in yardage, yet couldn’t put the ball in the endzone consistently scoring just 1 touchdown in the 4th quarter when it didn’t even matter. This season the Steeler offense is actually one of the better offenses in the league ranking 4th in the league in rushing and 8th in the league in passing. They are led by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who has completed 65% of his passes for 1593 yards with 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. His two main targets are wide receivers Antonio Brown and Marcus Wheaton. Brown has been a problem for opposing defenses with 41 receptions for 629 yards and 5 touchdowns. Le’Veon Bell is having a good season out of the backfield, averaging 5.2 yards per carry. Pittsburgh’s defense ranks 12th in the league in total defense and have been respectable despite key injuries. They are allowing 111 yards rushing and 225 yards passing per game.

How much do you think the Steelers have heard about their loss to Cleveland this week? A lot…the local media has blasted the Steelers so you would have to think they will be in quite the angry mood. Yes they looked horrible against Cleveland, however that was their fourth road game five weeks. They’ve had extra time to prepare, and I really think the Steelers dominate tonight. Ben Roethlisberger will be going up against the worst secondary they’ve faced all season. Now you might think that the Texans front four might pose a problem against the Steeler offensive line, yet the Texans aren’t really getting to the quarterback consistently this season. I think the Steeler defense puts forth an inspired effort on primetime, and I think the Big Ben and the Steeler offense has a field day against a defense that is very suspect. Pittsburgh rolls tonight.
