Thursday NBA Playoff Analysis: With the series tied 2-2, the San Antonio Spurs look to hold home court in the Western Conference finals when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Well it looks like we have a series. Oklahoma City forward Serge Ibaka, once thought to be gone for the postseason, made a miraculous return in game 3. To say that Ibaka has made a difference would be an understatement. After losing the first two games of the series by a combined 52 points, the Thunder returned the favor in games 3 and 4, winning by y 9 in game 3, and 13 in game 4. Granted, the scoring margin isn’t as great as the first two games, but the Thunder were actually more dominant in game 4 than they were in game 3. The Thunder had a 76-49 lead in the third quarter and after that Spurs coach Greg Popovich started pulling his starters. Russell Westbrook had an MVP-like performance in game 4 with 40 points, 10 assists and 5 rebounds. Kevin Durant added 30 points, while Jeremy Lamb provided a spark off the bench coming in for an injured Reggie Jackson to contribute 7 points. The Thunder played a stingy defense limiting San Antonio to 39.3% shooting from the field, and forcing 13 turnovers.

At the start of this series, I thought San Antonio would run away with this series. Oklahoma City was thought to be without Serge Ibaka, and without him they’re just not the same team. Teams can always step up their play for an injured player for a game or two, but not for a series, it’s a totally different ballgame. Fast forward 4 games, and from what I saw in games 3 and 4, Oklahoma City is younger and more athletic. Ibaka makes a huge difference in the paint, the league’s leading shot blocker doesn’t block every shot, but he forces people that drive to the basket to alter their shot. He’s a difference maker on both ends, especially on defense. I picked San Antonio to win the series…and after what I saw the last two games, I’m not so sure that’s going to happen. San Antonio did rest their starters in the better part of the second half, and the Thunder starters did play a lot of minutes. To me it doesn’t matter, Oklahoma City is younger and they have a ton of momentum. I’m grabbing the points tonight with Oklahoma City; this is the exact same team that swept the regular season series against the Spurs. Without Ibaka, the Thunder is limited defensively, but with him? Well you’ve seen that in the last two games. We saw the Thunder come back from a 0-2 deficit to win in 2012 against San Antonio, and it wouldn’t shock me to see it happen again. I see a game that goes down to the wire tonight, and like the Thunder to pull off the mild upset.
