Monday Night Football Odds: Seattle -11.5 (O/U: 42.5) @ JustBet

Monday Night Rams SeahawksOn Monday night, the 6-1 Seattle Seahawks will travel to St Louis to take on the 3-4 Rams in an NFC West tilt. Seattle is coming off an impressive 34-22 win at Arizona where they thoroughly dominated the Cardinals. St Louis is back home after a two game road trip going 1-1 with a 38-6 win at Houston, and a 30-15 loss against a hot Carolina Panther team.

Unfortunately for St Louis, they lost more than the game last weekend. They also lost starting QB Sam Bradford for the season. This however wasn’t the main storyline this week as far as the team is concerned. On Tuesday, reports surfaced that Jeff Fisher and the Rams reached out to 44 year old Brett Favre to come out of retirement. Favre declined the offer, as everyone knows. The Rams also signed veteran Brady Quinn after being released by the Jets. So for now, the Rams will turn to veteran Kellen Clemens. Clemens is very familiar with the offensive system for St Louis under offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Clemens was the backup for the New York Jets when Schottenheimer was the coordinator there. Clemens’ career as a starter is 0-3 in St. Louis.

Seattle comes in at 6-1 for the first time in franchise history. In the past, Seattle hasn’t been that strong of a road team, but this year it’s a different story, as they are 3-1 on the road. Granted, they haven’t been impressive in all of the matchups, but last week, in a divisional game, they looked pretty damn good.

So if you look at this matchup, and you look at some of the past games by the Rams, you might think this is a pretty good matchup…not so fast. St Louis isn’t as good as their record would indicate. In 5 of their 7 games this year, they have been outgained. They were even outgained by Jacksonville, and Houston…the only reason they won those games was that they won the turnover battle, and those teams just basically gave them the win.

The thing that sticks out about this Rams team this week is the whole Brett Favre report. Does Fisher know that they don’t have a chance with Kellen Clemens as the starter? That has to stir up some stuff in the locker room, and I don’t think it’s a positive thing. I just don’t see how the Rams could be competitive this Monday night. The Seahawks have had an extra 3 days off also, more time to gameplan, more time for rest and focus. It is Monday night, and I know the Rams would like to shock the world, but it’s not going to be happening in this spot. In Pete Carrolls time in Seattle, the Seahawks are 7-1 straight up in primetime games. The focus will be there, as not only do they want to win the division, but homefield throughout the playoffs, and San Francisco is right on their heels. No need to worry about a look ahead spot for the Seahawks either, as they host winless Tampa Bay next week.Seattle is also getting healthy, Percy Harvin won’t be playing, but their offensive line is getting healthy, and even when they had the patchwork offensive line, they were still running the ball effectively.

One other thing to point out, the home field advantage…will there be one? St Louis is a baseball town, and the Cardinals are playing game 5 of the World Series, and quite possibly might have a chance to clinch the series. I’d have to think that the crowd won’t be as lively as usual, and it might not even be that packed of a house.

Outlook for this Week 8 Monday Night Football Matchup: Seattle is better on both sides of the ball, and should win this comfortably. I can’t even think about taking the good old home dog on Monday night. Seattle is better in all three phases of the game. With Kellen Clemens at the helm, I don’t think it improves an already below average offense. I do think St Louis will be competitive in the beginning, but Seattle should pull away as the game goes on. It’s never a good idea to lay double digits in the NFL, especially on the road. In this case however, you’re paying a premium with Seattle, because they are the far superior team in every facet of the game.
