J.R. SmithGame 5 – Indiana Pacers vs. New York Knicks Free Pick: Our Thursday NBA free picks are back tonight with a look at Game 5 of the second round series between the Indiana Pacers and the New York Knicks. These Knicks have clearly been the lesser of the two teams in this series, but the oddsmakers still have them lined at -5 on the NBA odds on Thursday night. Our NBA predictions clearly don’t agree with that assessment, as we think that Indiana is the better of the two teams and will win this game outright. Here’s why.

Pacers vs. Knicks Game Time: 8:00 p.m. ET
Pacers vs. Knicks Live TV Coverage: TNT
NBA Odds: Knicks -5 (Total: 179)

The Knicks haven’t changed their ways at all. In Game 4, G J.R. Smith, in spite of the fact that he was threatened to be put on the bench after the way that he played in Games 1-3, still played 32 minutes and still jacked the ball up 22 times. He only made seven of those shots, and he ultimately finished the day with 19 points, two rebounds, no assists, and two turnovers. That’s just not going to get the job done, and honestly, we wouldn’t even dress Smith in the lineup if we were Head Coach Mike Woodson. Of course, it was more of the same from G Raymond Felton, who has suddenly become a shot taking machine, and F Carmelo Anthony as well. These two? 16-of-39 combined. If you take out those three players, the rest of the Knicks only managed to take 26 total shots for the game, and G Iman Shumpert, G Jason Kidd, and F Kenyon Martin combined for no points on 0-of-11 shooting between them. The Knicks are finished. Indiana is the better of the two teams, and it is playing with more confidence. The Pacers should be favored in Game 5, and we are shocked that we’re getting five points on our side.
