Saturday NBA Playoff Analysis: The San Antonio Spurs, up 3 game to 2, will attempt to close out their series when they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder in game 6 of the Western Conference Finals from the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The Spurs once again held home court in an impressive fashion, dominating the Thunder 117-89. The Spurs outscored the Thunder by 10 in the second quarter and never looked back after being tied 32-32 at the end of the first quarter. It was more of the same in the second half, as San Antonio held the Thunder to just 34 points after the half. It was basically a carbon copy of the game 2, the Thunder hung with the Spurs in the first quarter, and then San Antonio just shifted into another gear. After what we saw from the Thunder in games 3 and 4, one would have thought the game would be more competitive, which wasn’t the case. The Spurs got a total team effort, with 6 players scoring in double figures. Tim Duncan led the way with 22 points, while Manu Ginobli came off the bench to contribute 19. The Spurs looked like their usual self, a well-oiled machine shooting 51.3% from the field and hitting 50% of their 3-point attempts. The Thunder looked like a shell of the team that won games 3 and 4. Oklahoma City had only 3 players that scored in double figures, with Kevin Durant leading the way with 25 and Russell Westbrook adding 21. The Thunder shot 43% from the field and hit only 6 of 24 attempts from beyond the arc. Both teams were even when it comes to turnovers, but the Spurs were aggressive on the glass, outrebounding the Thunder by 13.

I’m laying the points with Oklahoma City on Saturday night. While getting points with a team like the Spurs is attractive, I expect the Thunder to bounce back on Saturday night. The Thunder are a totally different team on their home court and feed off the energy of their electric home crowd, which was evident in games 3 and 4. The Thunder are not going to be eliminated on their home court, plain and simple. If this was a team that was inexperienced I would have my doubts, but Oklahoma City has the experience, and I expect them to make the adjustments. Looking back on game 5, I suppose they were due for a letdown after two big emotional wins at home along with the return of Serge Ibaka. The home team has been the dominant team in this series, and I expect nothing different in tonight’s matchup. While I respect the coaching of Greg Popovich, I expect the Thunder to make the necessary adjustments and force what I’m hoping is a competitive game 7. As for the total, I really like the over tonight, yet you have to keep in mind that if the game gets out of control, Popovich might pull his starters as he has done in previous games. The Thunder are on a 9-0 ATS run against San Antonio at the Chesapeake Energy Arena, more of the same tonight.
