Thursday NBA Playoff Analysis: The Oklahoma City Thunder will look to close out their Western Conference semifinal series when they take on the Los Angeles Clippers in game 6 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Out of all the second round series, this by far has been the most entertaining one. After the Thunder squandered a large lead to lose in the final minutes of game 4, Oklahoma City returned the favor coming back in the final minutes to capture game 5. A controversial out-of-bounds call along with a foul by Chris Paul on Russell Westbrook’s three point attempt was the nail in the coffin. Westbrook made all three free throws, and Chris Paul drove down the court in the final seconds only to lose the ball to Oklahoma City to seal the victory for the Thunder. Russell Westbrook led the Thunder with 38 points, while Kevin Durant struggled throughout the contest but finished with 27 points on 6 of 22 to shooting, yet going 12 of 12 from the charity stripe. No other player from the Thunder scored in double figures. Blake Griffin had an outstanding performance for the Clippers scoring 24 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. The Clippers had four other scorers in double figures led by Jamal Crawford off the bench contributing with 19 points.

I’m grabbing the points with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night. The underdog is 4-1 ATS in this series, but that’s not the only reason why I’m backing them. Looking at the previous games in this series, you might actually think that the Thunder are playing better on the road than they are home. In fact, the Thunder are 3–1–1 ATS on the road in the playoffs this year. I’m also looking at the possibility of a hangover effect that could be a factor. Oklahoma City squandered that huge lead in game 4, in game 5 they came out flat. It is very well possible that Los Angeles might be the team that comes out flat tonight. Not only did they squander a lead in the fourth quarter, they were also complaining about officiating, saying they were robbed. Meanwhile the Thunder are focusing on how to close out this series. All the pressure is on the Clippers tonight, while they have to recover from the emotional outcome of game 5. Kevin Durant might have finished game 5 with 27 points, yet he struggled and I don’t see a repeat performance tonight. It’s almost like the pendulum has swung so many ways in this series, and right now Oklahoma City has the momentum. I think their playoff experience comes into play tonight, and I expect a real focused effort from them playing against a team that might just be mentally spent.
