Tuesday NBA Playoff Analysis: With the series tied 2-2, the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers meet in game 5 of their first round NBA playoff series from Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

In my analysis for Sunday’s game, I said that the Warriors flat out had to shoot better in order to even the series. Well, they certainly did that. Golden State shot 55.4% from the field and 46.9% from beyond the arc hitting 15 of their 32 3-point attempts. Stephen Curry started the game by hitting five 3-points in the first quarter. It was almost like the game was over by the end of the first quarter with a 39-24 lead. The rest of the game was competitive, but the first quarter output was too much to overcome as the Warriors won the game 118-97. Stephen Curry had his best game of the series with 33 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Andre Iguodala also had his best game of the series with 22 points and 9 assists.

With the whole Donald Sterling situation, you had to wonder how the Los Angeles Clippers would fare on Sunday. Well, it was immediately evident when the Clippers players came out with their warm-up jerseys inside out. It was a big distraction, as the Clippers were just awful and allowed Golden State to take advantage. The focus wasn’t there and it was evident the way Golden State was shooting. There was no intensity from the Clippers, and after the game Doc Rivers took full responsibility. Los Angeles not only allowed the Warriors to shoot from beyond the arc at almost a 47% clip. Jamal Crawford came off the bench to lead all scorers with 26, while Blake Griffin chipped in 21 in the losing effort.

Tuesday night’s game should be quite interesting, as the crowd should be in an emphatic frenzy. It will also be a media circus, as the eye of the sports world will be on the Staples Center. Last night a lot of players throughout the league wore black socks in support of the Clippers. Do the Clippers have to like their owner to be successful? Absolutely not. Sunday’s poor performance was expected, the report came out on Saturday, and I don’t think the Clipper players really knew how to deal with it. Now, it’s sunk in and days have passed, and I do believe this whole thing will unite the players even more, bringing on an ‘us against him’ scenario. I am laying the points with the Clippers on Tuesday night. I’m not expecting a 40 point blowout like we saw in game 2, but I do expect a double digit win and a stellar performance by the Clippers. In the first 3 games, the Warriors shot poorly from beyond the arc. Well, during the regular season, the Clippers had the league’s best 3 point defense, limiting opponents to 33.2% shooting from 3-point land. I expect the Clippers to turn it up a notch on defense, and I think an electric Los Angeles crowd will make a difference. They may dislike their owner, but they most certainly will support their team.
