Monday NBA Playoff Analysis: The San Antonio Spurs, currently up 3-0 will look to close out their second round playoff series when they take on the Portland Trail Blazers from the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon.

The second round of the NBA playoffs has been pretty entertaining for the most part, not as good as the first round though, but it’s been pretty good for the most part. The only series that hasn’t been competitive is this one. San Antonio has flat out dominated every game from the word go winning each game by an average of 18.6 points. The Spurs have shot an outstanding 52% from the field and an outstanding 45.6% from beyond the arc. Point guard Tony Parker has been the catalyst for San Antonio, averaging 26 ppg and 8 assists in the series. Kawhi Leonard has also made his presence felt, averaging 17 points and 8 rebounds per contest. For Portland the starters have played well for the most part, yet Lamarcus hasn’t even been near the threat he was in their series against Houston, averaging 23 ppg compared to the 37 he was averaging against Houston. Damian Lillard has played well at times, but isn’t even nearly as affective as he was in the first round. Portland has also struggled taking care of the basketball, as they have turned the ball over a total of 50 times in the series, including 20 in game 1. San Antonio has made them pay for those mistakes, scoring 51 points off those miscues.

Portland’s back is against the wall here and as much as I’d like to back them, I am laying the points with San Antonio tonight. Portland sure looked like a threat in the first round, as Lamarcus Aldridge was a beast in those 6 games. Yet Mr. Aldridge has come down to earth, as the Blazers have run into a real defense. Not only is San Antonio more experienced in the playoffs, their bench has been a major factor, with the Spurs bench outscoring Portland’s 140-43 in the 3 games. The Spurs are all business; they want the extra rest as they know that the Thunder and Clippers could very well go 7 games. You also have to question the mindset for Portland; do they think they can come back from this deficit against a team like San Antonio? I think the writing is on the wall, and I see San Antonio sending Portland on vacation on Monday night.
