2014 NBA Finals Game 3 Analysis: The 2014 NBA Finals heads to South Beach as the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs meet up in game 3 with the series tied 1 game apiece.

We had a feeling it was going to happen, and it came to fruition as LeBron James came back with a vengeance in game 3 with a 35 point performance leading the Heat to a 98-96 win in game 2. James made his presence felt after shooting 1 for 4 in the first quarter, by connecting on 11 of his next 13 shot attempts. James scored 8 points within the span of a minute in the third quarter to erase a 6 point deficit. In the fourth quarter the Heat relied on some superior defense and a key 3-pointer by Chris Bosh to seal the win. The Spurs looked to have the momentum in the fourth but failed to capitalize on a flagrant foul by Mario Chalmers, as Tony Parker couldn’t connect on two free throws and had an empty possession. Tony Parker had 21 points for San Antonio, while Tim Duncan contributed with 18. Both veterans were just 7 of 14 combined from the free throw line, which proved to be the difference. San Antonio was a lot better in game 2 in terms of ball security, as they had only 11 turnovers compared to the 22 in game 1, yet shot a poor 43.9% from the field.

If San Antonio wants any chance to win their fifth title in franchise history, they must win in Miami. Are the Spurs capable of doing so? Absolutely, many actually forget that San Antonio stole game 1 in last year’s finals, winning in Miami 92-88. I don’t think Miami will come out with the same defensive intensity and I do give San Antonio a real shot in this one. I do believe they will change up how they defend LeBron James, and I can fully expect Gregg Popovich to make the necessary adjustments. In the past two seasons, San Antonio is 25-12 ATS after a loss as a home favorite. I don’t believe as experienced as Popovich is, that he’s shown his full hand in this series, and think he might have something in store for the big 3. Miami played excellent on defense in game 2, and the Spurs shot poorly throughout the game from the field and from the charity stripe? Do I see a repeat in game 3? No….I’m grabbing the points with San Antonio tonight; as I think this will be a highly competitive game that comes down to the wire.
