Tampa Bay Rays vs. Kansas City Royals Wednesday Free Pick: The Tampa Bay Rays and the Kansas City Royals pulled off one of the biggest trades of the offseason this year, when RHP James Shields and OF Wil Myers switched teams. Neither will be involved in this game on Wednesday night, but Tampa Bay and Kansas City will be having at it in MLB betting action. The Royals are +112 underdogs on the MLB betting lines in this 8:10 p.m. ET start time at home at Kauffman Stadium.

We’re actually a bit puzzled and troubled by these MLB odds on Wednesday. The Rays are just 4-10 away from Tropicana Field this year, and they are historically a very suspect team on the road. They’re 12-14 on the season, and they’re playing against a Kansas City team that is almost a clone of what they are. The Royals won 8-2 yesterday, and we have a hard time believing that they should be underdogs today. We do think a lot of RHP Jeremy Hellickson for Tampa Bay, but he can’t do it all by himself. He’s a 1-2 pitcher this year, and the team is 2-3 in his starts in spite of the fact that he has posted a tremendous 1.09 WHIP in his five outings. RHP Luis Mendoza truly is the reason that the Royals are dogs in this one, as he is 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA thus far this season. Of course, Mendoza walks far too many batters, and he doesn’t strike out nearly enough, but this is the most impatient lineup that he is going to have run up against thus far this year. We know that this righty has the stuff to be nasty, and we think that he is going to put some of that on display on Wednesday night. It’s a joke that Kansas City, even after a 14-10 first month of the season, is an underdog in this game. Rays vs. Royals Free Pick for May 1st: Take the Kansas City Royals +112
