Los Angeles Dodgers vs. St. Louis Cardinals NLCS Game 1 Free Pick: The truth of the matter is that the two best playoff teams in the National League are left standing at this point. The Los Angeles Dodgers and the St. Louis Cardinals are clearly going to be amongst the World Series contenders, and it would be a shock to think that either team would go down without a big time fight in the second season. Game 1 starts on Friday night, and we have our NLCS picks set to go for this series.

The Dodgers have opened as the slight Game 1 favorites on the MLB odds at -115, but we have a feeling that the better bet in this game is on the ‘over’ 6.5.

We’re just getting the feeling that this is going to be a higher scoring series than the oddsmakers suggest that it will be. RHP Zack Greinke hasn’t allowed more than two runs in a start in his last 13 outings, making it tough to want to back the ‘over’ with all of that in mind. However, we aren’t all that sure that it isn’t a great play to make, especially against RHP Joe Kelly, who walked four batters and was lucky to only give up three runs (two of which were earned) against the Pittsburgh Pirates in Game 3 of the NLDS.

However, take a look at the bats in these two lineups. The Cardinals hit six home runs in five games against the Pirates, and they had four players hit at least .294 in the series. There are others that are clearly going to be getting their licks in come this series, and we have to think that 2B Matt Carpenter, who went just 1-for-19 in the series, is going to be at the head of the pack. OF Carl Crawford had three homers by himself, and against an Atlanta Braves pitching staff that did a good job of keeping the ball in the park this year, the Dodgers had seven homers in four games. Five players had at least six hits in the four games, and two others had at least four hits. There are no easy outs in these lineups whatsoever, and we don’t think that either of these starters is going to pitch into the seventh as a result. Look for this one to feature at least eight or nine runs.
