Jonathon NieseNew York Mets vs. St. Louis Cardinals Thursday Free MLB Pick: It’s getaway day at Busch Stadium, and we are making our MLB predictions in the final game of this four-game series between the New York Mets and the St. Louis Cardinals. The Mets are heavy, heavy underdogs in this game with LHP Jon Niese on the bump, while Manager Mike Matheny is going to counter by letting one of his best pitchers, RHP Adam Wainwright have a shot at the boys from the Big Apple, as his team goes for the sweep.

NHL Odds: Mets +210 / Cardinals -220 (Total: 7.5)

We really don’t think all that much of Adam Wainwright when push comes to shove. His splits are great this year, but he is pitching over his head. That 2.30 ERA isn’t going to continue, and we know that historically, this is a man that averages well over a walk and a half per start, and 0.5 walks as he is averaging this year. That alone is going to give the Cards some issues in this one. As far as Jonathon Niese is concerned, we know that he has more in the tank than he has offered this season as well. He has had back to back terrible starts, allowing 15 runs in 8.1 innings in two games, but he is a man that is right around a 4.00 ERA type of pitcher for his career. If that’s the man that we get on Thursday afternoon, and not the one that has gotten rocked in his last two outings, the Mets have a chance at pulling off the upset, and at these types of MLB odds, all we need to be is in it with a shout in the late innings to feel validated. If it does happen to be this close, remember that the Cardinals have the worst bullpen ERA in the game.
