Kris Medlen BravesLos Angeles Dodgers vs. Atlanta Braves Game 1 MLB Pick: The main portion of the playoffs get started on Thursday night at Turner Field, where the Atlanta Braves are going to be hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers. The ‘total’ might be low at just six in this game, but we still think that the best way to make your MLB picks in this game is to rely on both arms to come out strong and shut down the other team.

The Braves are almost surprisingly +140 underdogs on the MLB betting lines in Game 1, and though we do think that they are a great play, we also think that the ‘under’ is the best play on the board in the first two days of main playoff games.

Here we have a great situation to take the ‘under’. We know that it is a low number, one that really shouldn’t ever show up all that often, even in playoff games. However, this is postseason baseball, and we see remarkable pitching performances all the time because of tense batters and the best pitchers in the game are doing their thing. In this case, we have two of the best in the biz in LHP Clayton Kershaw and RHP Kris Medlen, who are both pitching out of their minds right now. Kershaw has a 1.83 ERA for the season, and he rarely allows more than two runs in a game, while Medlen has a sub-1.00 ERA in his last six starts.

On top of that, we would be remiss if we didn’t point out the fact that the Dodgers really don’t have that phenomenal of a lineup any longer. Remember that they are going to have to go into this series two outfielders short. Playing without OF Matt Kemp is no big deal, as the team had to do it in more than half of its games this year. But playing without OF Andre Ethier could cause some real problems going forward. In the end, these two pitchers are going to go deep into this game, and we think that they are both going to be putting up a lot more zeroes than anything else. There won’t be a single crooked number on the board in any of the innings on either side, and no more than four or five runs will be scored for the whole game.
