Pirates FlagSt. Louis Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates NLDS Game 4 Free Pick: The first team in the playoffs could be eliminated on Monday afternoon in MLB betting action at PNC Park, as the Pittsburgh Pirates look to finish off the St. Louis Cardinals, who are hoping to force a decisive Game 5 in this series back at Busch Stadium on Wednesday.

The good news for the Cards is that they are favored to get the job done. They’re -117 favorites in this game on the MLB playoff odds, while the ‘total’ is set at a relatively low 7.5. That said, the bad news is that we don’t think they stand a chance of withstanding what is going to be the most raucous crowd that we have seen yet so far in these playoffs in the Steel City.

We’re puzzled, to say the least. We’ve got one team with a rookie pitcher on the mound in RHP Michael Wacha who has made nine MLB starts in his career, exactly one of which has been flat out awesome, and most of the rest of which are so-so or worse. On the other side, we’ve got a guy in RHP Charlie Morton who would have been out of the majors a few years ago if not for getting a chance from this Pittsburgh team, and he probably caught massive lightning in a bottle this season. And the ‘total’ in this game is only 7.5? Yes, Sunday’s game wasn’t exactly the highest scoring game in the world, but both of these teams have flashed some offense, and we know that the ability is there to get runs in bunches if need be. All three games have reached at least eight runs, and this one is probably going to be no exception whatsoever.

The leash is going to be short on both of these starters yes, and though the bullpens are good for both teams, the momentum that the Pirates are carrying is just ridiculous. All that we need to happen is essentially what happened on Saturday. Both starters need to get hit around just a bit, both teams need to get to three runs, and someone needs to plate an insurance run late on, and this one will get past the number. All of these games have gotten there thus far. This one isn’t going to be an exception to the rule.
