Mike Napoli Red SoxDetroit Tigers vs. Boston Red Sox Game 6 MLB Pick: The Detroit Tigers might be down 3-2 in the ALCS, but if you had to have two games that you had to win on the road to save your season, you’d think that this is the situation that they would want to be in. They’re throwing their Cy Young Award winner on Saturday night at Fenway Park in their effort to stay alive against the Boston Red Sox.

Home field advantage is talking in a big time way for the Sox, as they are the -114 favorites on the ALCS odds in this one. We aren’t all that sure that it is justified, but they are going to have a shot on Saturday to close this out and advance to the World Series for a date with the St. Louis Cardinals.

This is a game on the MLB odds that we just don’t understand. The Red Sox are the better of these two teams in all likelihood, but the fact that they are the favorites in this game just doesn’t make sense. They have their worst of their four starting pitchers on the mound in this one in RHP Clay Buchholz, and he is going to be going against the second best pitcher on the Tigers and the man that has led his team to a 23-3 record thus far this season, RHP Max Scherzer. The argument could be made that Scherzer is definitely ready for a reversal, as there is no way that he is as good over the life of his career as he has been in 2013. However, we think that Buchholz is already going through his issues. He had an ERA under 2.00 for the whole season this year, but he is finally starting to get hit hard, including when he allowed five runs to these Tigers in Game 2 and was bailed out by the rest of his team in the late innings.

Scherzer though, really hasn’t proven that he has done anything wrong. He pitched his way out of a massive jam that he created in Game 4 of the ALDS to save the season against the Oakland Athletics, and he has really been spot on aside from that. The righty is clearly the better of these two pitchers, and we would be shocked if he didn’t outduel Buchholz in this one. The normally reliable Boston bullpen looked a little shaky in Game 5 of this series, and though it got the job done, it probably isn’t going to help matters at this point. There is a massive overreaction going on based upon the Red Sox winning Game 5, and we think that they should be the underdogs in this game. Detroit will extend this series more often than not.
