John Lackey Red SoxBoston Red Sox vs. Detroit Tigers Game 3 MLB Pick: After a wild Game 2 at Fenway Park, there might not be a more important game in the entire 2013 MLB season than the Game 3 that we are expecting on Tuesday afternoon between the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

The MLB betting lines aren’t really all that close in this one, as even off of their demoralizing loss, the Tigers are the -155 favorites to claim the 2-1 series lead in the ALCS. The ‘total’ is relatively high for this time of year at 7.5.

It’s going to be a big day to be a Red Sox fan. Boston found a way to literally rise up from the dead on Sunday night, as it clawed back from down 5-1 to the Tigers in the eighth inning to ultimately win the game thanks to DH David Ortiz and his grand slam and walk off single. Big Papi keeps doing it after all these years, and he is putting himself in Red Sox lore at this point. Now, the Sox have all of the momentum in the world, they are going to try to flex their muscles against RHP Justin Verlander, who hasn’t given up a run in 28 straight frames. That’s a lot of zeroes that have gone on the board, but we trust the Boston bats a lot more than we trust the bats of the Oakland Athletics, who were largely the culprits for the fact that Verlander has been so seemingly unhittable.

The Red Sox don’t have the best starting pitcher on the mound in RHP John Lackey, but we are confident that he is going to figure out how to at least make a case to win this game. Lackey has allowed at least three runs in six of his last seven games, but in the end, this was a man with 161 strikeouts in the regular season and a 3.52 ERA. Verlander was consistently one of the biggest overrated pitchers this year, and there is a reason why he had the worst money mark all season long. Sure, the righty has been unhittable in the postseason, but this is going to be a much different situation going against a Boston team that has a heck of a lot of confidence. The Red Sox will be the team that takes the 2-1 series lead to steal the home field advantage back in the ALCS.
