There’s a lot of concerns that we have right now for the Tigers. This will only be their third game in five days, but they have had to travel after each of those games. Off days have been travel days, and the fact of the matter is that the team has to be tired. This is the same type of stretch that the Tampa Bay Rays went on before they were blitzed by Boston here at Fenway Park in Games 1 and 2 of the ALDS. On top of that, just as Tampa Bay found out the hard way, it’s not so easy to play defense at Fenway Park. When you’ve got a left fielder trying to play the ball off of the Green Monster that is used to being a shortstop in LF Jhonny Peralta, you’ve got issues.

On top of that, the Red Sox are just flat out good. Manager John Farrell has had a couple days to think about his rotation and his lineup in this one, and he is making the right choice putting LHP Jon Lester out there. Detroit tends to struggle some with left handed pitchers, and this isn’t just your average southpaw. Lester threw seven innings and allowed just one run against the Tigers earlier this year, and he is coming off of a game against Tampa Bay in which he allowed two runs on a pair of solo homers in 7.2 innings. RHP Anibal Sanchez had an atrocious first start of the postseason, getting crushed by the Oakland Athletics at home, and we have to think that there are more issues that are coming. If Sanchez is leaving the ball up in the zone as he was last week at home, this is going to be a very short start for him and a very long day for the Tigers. Expect Boston to romp in Game 1.
