Week 14 Alabama at Auburn Free Picks With Analysis: The #1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide take on the #4Iron Bowl Free Picks ranked Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl in an SEC clash with major BCS implications. The winner of this game will clinch a spot in the SEC championship game.  See below for our 2013 Iron Bowl free picks with analysis.

Alabama has had yet another dominant season, and they’ve done it with a balanced offense and a dominant defense. The Crimson Tide defense ranks first in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 9.3 points per contest. The offense is led by senior quarterback and Heisman candidate AJ McCarron. McCarron has completed 68.6 percent of his passes for 2399 yards with 23 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. The rushing attack is impressive averaging 5.9 yards per carry, led by sophomore T.J. Yeldon (1022 yds, 12 TD) and Kenyan Drake (661 yds, 8 TD). The two main receiving threats for the Tide are senior Kevin Norwood and Amari Cooper, who have combined for 63 receptions for 930 yards and 9 touchdowns. The offense as a whole averages 233.3 yards through the air and 211.5 rushing yards per game. The Tide has won every SEC contest this year by an average of 27.7 points.

The Auburn Tigers have had a storybook season, with a surprising turnaround after going 3-9 the previous season. The running game is the bread and butter for the offense, as they average 320.3 yards on the ground per game and 6.4 yards per rushing attempt. Quarterback Nick Marshall is a dual threat quarterback that has completed 58.4% of his passes for 1530 yards with 9 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Marshall is more effective on the ground, rushing for 823 yards and 9 touchdowns, averaging 6.7 yards per carry. Tre Mason is the mainstay in the backfield with 1153 yards and 17 touchdowns averaging 5.5 yards per carry. The defense is respectable, but against some of the better teams they’ve faced this year they have given up their fair share of points. They struggled against LSU giving up 457 yards and in a 35-21 loss. They gave up 602 yards yet escaped with a 44-41 win over Texas A&M. Finally, against Georgia they were lucky to win as they gave up 415 yards through the air and won on a miracle 73 yard touchdown pass with 25 seconds left.

Auburn has had a great season, but now they will face the best defense they’ve faced all year. They have a dynamic rushing attack, yet their defense raises concerns. Against some of the top tier teams they’ve just given up way too many points, they may have outscored those teams, but those teams haven’t had great defenses either. Now they face the best defense in the SEC, if not the country. A one dimensional offense like Auburn’s won’t fare well against a Nick Saban defense. Even though Auburn has had two weeks to prepare, if Nick Marshall is forced into third and long situations, it might be a long day for the Tigers. Alabama has the coach and quarterback with more big game experience, and they have a defense that has gotten better as the season has gone on. I expect the Crimson Tide to win this comfortably and clinch their second straight SEC championship berth.
