The Washington Huskies come into Friday’s matchup winners of four out of their last five games. They are in the midst of a coaching change, as Steve Sarkisian bolted for USC. Shortly after Sarkisian’s departure, Washington lured Boise head coach Chris Peterson to Seattle. It’s been a pretty good season for the Huskies, yet they were unable to get a win against the stronger teams of the PAC-12. The offense is led by quarterback Keith Price, who has been impressive this year. Price has passed for 2843 yards with a 65.5% completion percentage, with 20 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions. The Husky backfield features one of the top running backs in the country, Bishop Sankey, who has rushed for 1775 yards and 18 touchdowns. The offense as a whole is averaging 38.5 points per game and 514.3 yards per game. Washington’s defense is pretty respectable allowing only 381.5 yards per game, ranking 49th in the country.

The BYU Cougars come into Friday’s contest winners of three out of their last five games. They have one of the country’s best rushing attacks, which ranks 10th in the FBS. They are led by their dual threat quarterback Taysom Hill, who has passed for 2645 yards, and rushed for 1211. He is the leading rusher on the team by a slim margin. Leading the backfield is sophomore Jamaal Williams, who has 1203 yards rushing on the season, averaging 5.9 yards per attempt. The Cougars are primarily a rushing team, as they average only 220.8 yards passing per game. The BYU defense has been respectable this year, as they’ve given up an average of 21.3 points per game. This isn’t the BYU defense we become accustomed to seeing year in and year out though, as they are 51st in the FBS in total defense, allowing 383.8 yards per game.

BYU has had a lot of success in recent bowl games, and they’ll be looking to with their fifth straight postseason appearance. I would almost never lay points with a team in the midst of a coaching change, but guiding the Huskies will be Marques Tuiasosopo, a Washington Alum and former quarterback who will have his first ever head coaching experience. Tuiasosopo was a former quarterback at Washington and led the team to a Rose Bowl victory in 2000. He is definitely no stranger to bowl games and the preparation it takes. Talent-wise, I think Washington has the edge here, as the PAC-12 was one of the top conferences this year. It might seem a little too good to be true with the line being a field goal, but I think Washington is much too explosive for this BYU squad. Tuiasosopo will rally the troops to a bowl victory in what should be a high scoring affair.
