Sweet 16 – Marquette vs. Miami Free Pick: The Marquette Golden Eagles, the No. 3 team in the East Region have just gotten into the Sweet 16 by the skin of their teeth, winning their first two games by a combined three points. Now, they have to head to the Verizon Center, where they could have a bit of a home court advantage against the No. 2 seed in the region, the Miami Hurricanes, who are hungry to prove that they are one of the best teams in the nation. Miami is favored by 5 ½-points on Thursday night. The March Madness odds come off the board at 7:15 p.m. ET when CBS’ coverage of the game kicks off.

The key to this game is going to be on the glass. Some of the biggest moments of both the second and third round games in the NCAA Tournament for the Golden Eagles came off of big time rebounds and those 50/50 balls that were won by the Big East co-champs. Marquette doesn’t have a man the size of Reggie Johnson, nor does it have a player as athletically gifted as Julian Gamble and Kenny Kadji. However, what this team does have is some big time heart, and that’s something that cannot be underestimated. Teams that have big time stars that find a way to step out of their own boxes and make huge plays are the ones that succeed this time of year, and the Golden Eagles have that man if Vander Blue. Blue has averaged 22.5 points per game in this tournament after averaging just 14.2 points per game in the regular season. That’s the type of effort that it’s going to take to win this game. We’re not all that sure that the Big East reps are going to be able to ultimately win this game, but we do love the fact that they have won two very close games thus far in the tourney. Miami didn’t look stellar against what we view to be a suspect Illinois team this year, and we could most certainly see the upset coming. We definitely want the points on our side.
