Game Line: Iowa -5.5 (from BetOnline)

Game Total: 149 (from BetOnline)

Saturday NCAABB analysis: The #10 ranked Michigan Wolverines will try to replicate their 75-67 victory back on January 22nd as they take on the #17 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City.

The Michigan Wolverines (17-5) are currently one of the hottest teams in the country, with only one loss since December 21st. They had their 10 game winning streak snapped at Indiana last Sunday, but rebounded nicely with a dominant 29 point victory against Nebraska. The Wolverines are averaging 76.1 ppg while shooting 48.7% from the field. They take care of the ball as they rank in the top 10 in fewest turnovers this season. They are not the greatest team on the glass as they have a total rebounding margin of 2.1. Defensively they are limiting opponents to 43.3 shooting from the field.

The Iowa Hawkeyes (17-6) have been struggling as of late, as they’ve lost 3 out of their last 5 games. They will be looking to rebound from a 76-69 home loss to Ohio State. Iowa is averaging 83.7 ppg while shooting 47.2% from the field. The Hawkeyes are one of the best teams in the country on the glass, averaging 43.3 rpg. Defensively Iowa is allowing 67.3 ppg, and limiting opponents to 38.6% shooting from the field, 2nd in the Big Ten. They also defend the perimeter well, limiting the opposition to only 29% from 3 point land.

I’m going to lay the points with the Hawkeyes this Saturday. After 20 straight home wins, the Hawkeyes have dropped two straight at Carver Arena and I don’t expect the losing trend to continue. Michigan can be beaten, and if Iowa can limit the 3 point shooting of the Wolverines they are very capable of getting the win. As previously mentioned, Iowa is superior at defending the 3 and they are better on the boards. Michigan might be in somewhat of a tough spot here. Up next for the Wolverines is a trip to Columbus to face the Ohio State Buckeyes, a big conference rival. This might be a bit of a look ahead spot, as they’ve already taken care of Iowa this season. I think the Hawkeyes take care of business, and get a big conference win against a Wolverine squad that might not be 100% focused.
