2 Wisconsin Badgers vs. 1 Arizona Wildcats

Game Line: Arizona -3 Game Total: 130 (from JustBet)

The two top seeds in the West region meet with a trip to the final four in North Texas on the line as the Wisconsin Badgers take on the Arizona Wildcats.

The Wisconsin Badgers advanced to the regional final with a dominant 69-52 victory over Baylor in perhaps their most dominating performance of the tournament. The Badgers jumped out to an 18-8 lead and never looked back, shooting 52% against a defense that made Creighton look like a junior college team. Wiconsin is averaging 73.5 ppg while shooting just under 46% from the field this season. In the tournament they are averaging 80 ppg while shooting just over 52% from the field. 7-foot junior forward Frank Kaminsky leads this disciplined squad, averaging 13.6 points and grabbing 6.2 rebounds per game. The junior 7-footer can also hit the 3, hitting 36.6% of his attempts from beyond the arc. Defensively they are allowing 63.8 ppg and 42.8% shooting from the opposition.

The Arizona Wildcats come into Saturday’s conference regional final off of a 70-64 win over a tough San Diego State squad. Pac-12 player of the year Nick Johnson scored 15 of the team’s final 16 points to lead the Wildcats past the Aztecs. Johnson (16.2 ppg) and freshman forward Aaron Gordon (12.2 ppg) lead the team in scoring, as they are averaging 73.1 ppg while shooting 46.8% from the field. Gordon and sophomore center Kaleb Tarczewski lead the way on the boards combining for an average of just under 15 rebounds per game. The Wildcats are one of the best defensive teams in the nation, allowing only 58.4 points per game (5th in the nation) while limiting opponents to 38% shooting from the field.

I’m backing the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday night. Plain and simple, the Wildcats are just the better team. Wisconsin has been inconsistent on the defensive end all season, while Arizona’s defense has been top notch. Both teams are efficient on the offensive end with each team having a 1.49 or better assist to turnover ratio. I just feel that while Wisconsin might be a tad better on offense, Arizona is just so much better on the defensive end. The Wildcats pressure, and don’t allow teams to get into a consistent flow. Wisconsin has had a great season and Bo Ryan’s coaching job has to be applauded, but Arizona has been among the elite all season long despite losing a key player. The Wildcats move on to North Texas.
