Saturday NCAABB analysis: The Arizona Wildcats take on the UCLA Bruins for the Pac-12 championship on Saturday from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Arizona Wildcats (30-3) come into Saturday’s conference championship winners of 7 out of their last 8. They advanced to the final by defeating Utah 71-39 and Colorado 63-43. They are led by junior guard Nick Johnson (16.1 ppg) and freshman forward Aaron Gordon (12.2 ppg). There is no doubt that they have really stepped it up on the defensive end. The Wildcats are one of the best defensive teams in the nation, allowing only 57.6 points per game while limiting opponents to 38.2% shooting from the field. They are tremendous on the glass, averaging 38.9 per game. They are averaging 73.1 ppg while shooting 46.9% from the field. They are efficient on the offensive end with a 1.43 assist to turnover ratio.

The UCLA Bruins come into Saturday’s contest winners of four out of their last 5. They have looked pretty impressive in the 2 games prior, dominating Oregon 82-63 and whipping Stanford 84-59. It’s apparent that the loss at Washington State to end the regular season served as a wake-up call, as they have really turned it up a notch. The Bruins are led by sophomore guard Jordan Adams (17.1 ppg) and guard/forward Kyle Anderson (14.1 ppg). They are one of the highest scoring teams in the country averaging 82 ppg while shooting 49.2% from the field. They are extremely efficient on the offensive end with a 1.63 assist to turnover ratio (4th in the NCAA), and are also 5th in the nation in assists (17.1 apg). On defense they have been known to struggle allowing opponents to shoot 42.9% from the field and giving up 70.8 ppg.

These teams met earlier this season with Arizona pulling out a 4 point victory at Pauley Pavilion. The Wildcats by most experts’ opinions already has a #1 seed locked up. I feel this is too many points, so therefore I’m grabbing the points with the Bruins on Saturday. Arizona has been great this year against the number, however I feel at this number, it might be a little too good to be true. This is a classic matchup of great offense vs. great defense, so I can’t see a blowout of any sorts here. I’ll take the 5 ½, as I feel that UCLA has a lot of momentum, and needs this win more than Arizona. They might not win outright, but I see this one going down to the wire.
